Assuming by Honolulu you mean the JW Marriott Ihilani at Ko Olina... you are in for a treat!
My wife and I spent a week there and it was wonderful. The pool area is very nice with limited 'cabana'-like chairs that are on a first booked first served basis. Depending on the heat they can go fast but we managed to have them for 2 of the 3 days we spent around the pool. It just adds one more flair of enjoyment for that relaxing atmosphere (says the irish boy).
Just two lagoons down (about 1/4 mile maybe) is the Vacation Club which had massage huts on the beach of the lagoon and you can stop by there to expand your restaurant options if you feel the need, although we were too engrossed by the great ones on the JW property.
The location is about a half hour out of downtown Honolulu which makes it much more quiet and romantic. Downtown and Waikiki are easily accessible though not sure if you will have a car (making it easier I felt).
If you are able, having the elaborate breakfast buffet offered at the hotels restaurant is not to be missed and worth the cost.
We have stayed here twice and it is beautiful for being in the heart of the city. Take time to climb Diamond Head and take the time to go out on a Long Boat paddle trip. You can make arrangements right on the beach across from the hotel.
If you want another place on the other side of town and outside of the busy city go to the J.W. Ihilani or see if you can get a room at the Ko Olina resort. This is the time share but they will still rent rooms if available. These are the most romantic spots! If you have a car go to the Valley of the Temples on your way to the Polynesian Cultural Center. Have fun!
