OK, Grosvenor Sq was great for me and my son, nice rooms. Ideally situated, turn left down oxford st to Hyde park for walks, Turn right for shopping/thatreland(approx 10-15 mins away on foot). County hall in Westminster, absolutely fab too. Stunning views over thames and london eye/aquarium/exhibition hall withun 5 mins walk in front of hotel.
At the county hall you are ideally situated near waterloo station so you can catch a train to south coast etc
For Marriott propterties, the one in India Quay is quite nice and a short train ride or walk to popular sight seeing destinations. They have some nice suites with good views, would make for an decent romantic escape if you want to be in London.
If you are looking outside of the "norm" and not a Marriott property, I stayed at a few Best Westerns while in the UK recently. Now I know, we all think Best Western and it conjures up driving down random interstates in the US and looking for a place to crash cheap. The Best Westerns in the UK are different, way different. They almost all in smaller towns/cities and are mostly historic venues or propteries. If you want something kinda cool and romantic, look at what they have to offer, plus the price is right in most places.
If they want to visit some castles and other fun stuff, look at the Oxfordshire area, plenty of hotel options and lots to see/do there, including Warwick Castle, Blenheim Palace, Stratford apon Avon and of course the city of Oxford. All very easy to get to with a rental car or by train/bus.
