Baseball as America's Pasttime - Cul de sac baseball

During middle school, I lived in a cul de sac, and we didn't have a baseball field within easy walking distance. There were about 8 boys my age who lived in the 10 or so houses, and we all loved playing baseball. The solution we came up with was to spraypaint bases on the road and play with a tennis ball. After losing a few tennis balls down the sewer drains, we learned it was best to cover them - first with our skateboards and later with lumber. I lived at the top of the cul de sac, and a ball hit in the air past my mailbox was a home run. Of course, our games were often interrupted by cars as people came home from work or headed to dinner. None of us were great players, but I spent many hours of my childhood playing out there, and I sorely miss it.
