Heading to Dublin, Ireland for pleasure and business....any "must see" events, places? Love exceptional wine and dining - any suggestions - all cuisines appreciated - Indian, Thai, local fare, etc. All suggestions appreciated. We are staying at the Shelbourne - a renaissance hotel. Thank you!
Round the corner from the Shelborne is the smallest pub in Ireland...Dawson's Lounge on Dawson Street. There is a great bar behind the St Stephen's Green Center called The Hairly Lemon...and then Peter's Pub serves perhaps the best Guinness in Dublin. If you are not a Guinness fan, then ask for Murphy's - the Cork equal - except folk from Cork will or course argue that it is better!
As for eating...pub food is good at Messr Maguire on the key - plus it is a micro brewery! Great Thai like food at Diep le Shaker - pricey but good. Noodles at Wagamama are good (below St. Stephen's Green Center) but that is a chain. There are places like "The Boxty House" which claims the authentic irish food but really is just a tourist version of irish. If you can, get out to a wee town called Leixlip and eat in Becketts. If chef Andrew Crawley is still there you are in for a treat! Food is great!
I also love Chapter 1 up at the top of O Connell Street. It is very pricy but for a treat it is just the nicest place to eat! Don't be shy of the back streets either. Up behind Parnell Center there are loads of wee "Greasy Spoons" where you will get a wee cup a tae and a scone and some of the best banter that you can shake a stick at!
