What to do?

I'm looking for any advise on something to do or see in Cologne.  I enjoy seeing stuff that only locals know about and aren't to touristy.  Any thoughts ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Cologne is a very beautiful city, I thought.  Even though it's very touristy, the most impressive thing to see is the cathedral, which is very impressive.

There are two good walking tours that I would suggest.  http://www.koeln.de/en/tourism/foot-banks.html along the banks of the Rhine and http://www.koeln.de/en/tourism/sightseeing-medieval.html the medieval history of Cologne.

Also, check out 4711 Glockenspiel, which has both a really nice Glockenspiel above the houst, and also is historical as it was the place where back in 1709, French revolutionaires hiding out from the man in Cologne meet up with Johann Maria Farina, an Italian working at 4711 Glockengasse, was making a refreshing men's perfume to be worn or consumed, that would have "the odor of an Italian spring morning after the rain." The French, upon returing to Paris, called the perfume "eau de Cologne", which has stuck.

A final point - the Marriott hotel in Cologne is one the of the nicest I stayed at during my summer trip to Cologne.

    Enjoy,

    Greg
