just wondering if anyone besides ourselves have gone abroad (or even elsewhere in US) for surgery that they could not find locally...

in our case we took our 17 year old son to Barcelona in 2001 for some nerve transfer they would not do here in the US...we would do it all over again if need be

I have friends who've had Lasik surgery done in Canada for a a lot cheaper than in the US.  They've all been happy with the results.

had not thought of doing lasik in Canada.... will have to remember that as its not too far to travel for those who fear flying (as some family members are)

I have been thinking of going back to Brazil for dental work, as winter approaches, and resting at the JW in Rio...thought it would be a nice combo

Haven't done any medical tourism yet, but have been collecting information about it.  Certainly will take advantage of it when it makes sense.  Medicare and insurance companies are control freaks who want to minimize payments, and costs of medical care in US are absolutely insane.

having experienced what we did in 2001 we were very impressed with the private clinic our son was at...and we got to tour Barcelona post surgery as he recovered... definitely medicare and insurance companies are "encouraging" us to look outside the box...also there's been a lot of news of football players travelling elsewhere for neck surgery....its an interesting discussion to watch play out...will the players be successful in keeping their spots...
