As I was clicking on the Discussions page, a pop-up box came up asking me if I wanted to check my Credit Score. I closed the pop-up box. NathalieF Andy, is this something new? I hope not, as I can't stand these things. I have nothing else opened on my laptop, so i know it did not come from another website.
What is happening to this site? All this is not good. I don't come here to look at advertising and if it continues, using this will take more time and many of us will use it less.
I would never use anything advertising on this site and never from a phone solicitor. If I need something I research it first.
I am not up-to-date on the construction of internet programs as much as I would like, but, I have notice that all sorts of pop-ups occur, and they are not always relevant to what I am doing. I suspect that various sites we use over time, have our addresses or observe our behavior and send out these messages. I do remember that there are 2 approaches to communication, polling and pushing, and this is definately someone pushing messages on us, but there is nothing to point to it being the current site, and not possibly a previous site.
Any MIs that are more involved in building internet applications that might have some insight into this?
'another example of the facebook invasion'
I agree...and also believe that more is to come. I don't think the ad invasion is stopping anytime soon. My guess would be it will grow if we have truly now moved to a new setup here....and it appears that we once again have with all this 'badge' stuff et al. I also notice that fewer and fewer of the 'regulars' are posting.
I noticed one and then a day later, another followed, a couple of days latter there was a third. If nothing is done, I expect that this will grow and as Tef said, fewer regulars seem to be posting and that trend will continue. It takes time to filter through posts and if the advertising grows significantly many will find the site less appealing. I have noticed that no one responds to them.
Just relational..... cookies and other trackers will figure out what you're interested in based on your clicks and searches without your even knowing they're doing this. If you go to piriform dot com and download their free ccleaner (**** cleaner) you will be able to clean up your harddrive to eliminate the problem, as well as free up disk space and improve performance.
