Staycation in New Orleans

We spent last Saturday night at the Renaissance Arts Hotel, a category 6 hotel, in the heart of New Orleans arts district.  We were going to a Saints pre-season game and the hotel is within easy walking distance.  (It was during our stay that New Orleans and southeastern Louisiana became the focus of Hurricane Isaac.)  The hotel is built in a circa 1910 warehouse.  It is only 5 stories high with a courtyard in the center.  The interior rooms overlook this courtyard.  There are lovely blown glass lighting fixtures in the lobby.

We checked in early without a problem.  When I asked about week-end breakfast, I was told the CL was closed; however, the desk agent gave us a voucher (not to exceed $40) for breakfast and told me it was "just this once".  I hate to complain about a freebie, but breakfast was very average and the service was terrible.  I saw several parties leave the dining room when their groups were not seated promptly.  I know several tables around us had to ask several times for different things.

Our room was nice.  The bed was comfortable and I always take my own pillow.  The room had the best black-out curtains that I have ever seen.  A safe and small refrigerator are located in a cabinet under the flatscreen TV.  The bathroom was small, but that was not a surprise.  The Aveda toiletries are nice. Lotion, shampoo, and conditioner were provided.  We had a bath soap about as big as an egg.  There was also a boxed tube of toothpaste.

Valet parking is about $35; however, we were able to find street parking.  It costs $1.50 an hour until 6 P.M. on Saturday and is free on Sunday.

There was an International Cufflink Convention happening in the hotel.  We took a glance in the display room which was open to the public and were amazed at all the cufflinks available for sale.  Prices ranges from $15 to over $1500.

We will definitely stay at this hotel again.

    razorbackfan,

I appreciate the review.  You're right, you hate to complain about freebies, but wish they had delivered better.  Still, I would stay there from hearing your review.  Thanks!
