France and Monaco
I wonder if anyone has relevant and recent knowlege for comment on the Riviera Marriott La Porte de Monaco. General comment would be appreciated, but I have special interest in the mode or modes of treating Platinum members at the hotel and the satisfaction achieved with stays at the suite level, most particularly the Panoramic One Bedroom suites. My general impression from various review surveys is that it is very far from an elegant hotel (especially by the standards of Monaco), but reasonably acceptable.
Have stayed at this hotel a number of times and it was always special. They treated PP very special and it was close to all Monaco activities and sights. They had a shuttle to the Casino and it was always memorable.
You may want to check the "Library" of posts on this property/place, if possible, it is a great place to visit.!
I had a major issue here with having to pay extra for a 'free stay'. I could have taken my chances and hoped they'd upgrade me as a PP, but if they hadn't I would have been facing a stadium construction site on the back. THEN, after I did pay the extra, they also charged me extra points as well, which led to a long discussion as I was leaving.
It is literally across the street from Monaco and has a very nice beach and pool, but I will no longer stay on points at any Marriott that makes me pay extra.
As to your other question, my room was fine, but nothing special.
We've stayed at this property on multiple occasions and have found the staff to be friendly and helpful regarding the area. The parking arrangement takes some getting used to when taking a car in or out of the property. I found the rooms to be OK. Did not get or ask for an upgrade when there. Also didn't spend much time in the hotel. It's Monaco..... and lots to see.
