Freddie's (without the Jets): sorry Sir Elton!

Freddie awards were given out last night:

Among hotels, the Starwood brand won more Freddies than any other hotel group, including the "Program of the Year" in the Europe/Africa region. Marriott took home the "Program of the Year" Freddie for hotels in the Americas. Combined, Starwood and Marriott won 13 of the 18 "best of" categories. India's Taj Hotels won three while Hyatt and Accor each won one.

(For each location tag, you will be guided through a 3-step process to add (1) a city and a state or a city and a country, (2) a Marriott brand, and (3) a Marriott hotel.)

Hotel Program of the Year [Americas] Marriott Rewards

The top four finishers are Marriott Rewards, Choice Privileges, Starwood Preferred Guest and Wyndham Rewards.

Ed French takes a moment to say, we do this on behalf of our members, so thanks. And congratulations to all of the winners tonight.

Marriott Rewards is no stranger to the Freddie Award stage having won Program of the Year in the Americas for the fifth consecutive year (including winning Program of the Year in the Frequent Travel Awards for the two years of their existence). This is the 13th time through the years that the program has won this honor. Marriott is all about consistency—in the guest experience, customer service and loyalty program and their members showed their appreciation by turning out to vote.

Very interesting!  You would think that these awards were sponsored by AMERICAN AIRLINES.  Seems like they won almost every category in the airline business.  My point here is, what does it all mean?  Post after post on this site  criticize american airlines, yet here they swept the awards.  Doesn't seem to make any sense to me.  I happen to love AA and Marriott, so today is a happy day for me.

Bottom line. are these awards significant in ANY way??

I do not have an answer for this other than that this is the results of the voters on the Freddies and seems to have some significance although there are other gauges/reward programs to determine what are the best hotels and airline programs!! By the way, I am also suprised that American Airlines received so many votes considering they are in Bankruptcy!!!

I think the awards are significant to the winners! They now have a pulpit to preach to the masses that they won! It's certainly a way to build new business with those considering how (and who to use) to travel.

On the converse, I don't think they mean much of anything to the seasoned traveler. They already know what companies they patronize or don't and the reasons for each.

So if you are going bankrupt you win the Freddie?  Makes perfect sense to me
