About These Terms of Use

These Terms of Use will serve as the "rules of the road" for the Marriott Rewards Insiders community and, of course, include the legal stuff from the lawyers. The community is provided by the Marriott Rewards program of Marriott® International, Inc. (Marriott) and may only be used in accordance with these Terms of Use. By joining the community you agree to abide by these Terms of Use. We hope these rules will help all of us avoid any unnecessary bumps in the road ahead.

Moderating of the Community

The Primary Rule

The primary rule when creating a post, or replying to one, is to be relevant and respectful. Just as we would not allow someone to stand in one of our hotel lobbies shouting profanities or engage in other disruptive behavior that upsets guests, we will not allow that type of action here.

Our Use of Moderators

While Marriott assumes no duty to pre-screen or regularly review posted content, the community will be moderated, and the moderators will have the right to hold back or remove any post that they believe violates these Terms of Use. On occasion, messages may be removed several days after they have been posted. In addition, our moderators will generally delete posts that are written in languages other than English, although we continuously evaluate the need for multilingual capabilities.

Our moderators may respond to comments either individually or as a cluster of comments on the same topic.

Responses from Marriott Customer Care

The Insiders community is not our primary channel for customer support. We do, however, make an effort to field member issues related to stays and the Marriott Rewards program to the appropriate customer support agents.

If you are trying to resolve an issue, please refrain from posting personally identifiable information anywhere in the community. If you have a specific concern or billing dispute, please contact Customer Care for assistance. You should not assume that a posting on this community constitutes notice to Marriott of any such matters or for any legal purposes.

Taking Part in the Community

Access Restrictions for Marriott Employees

With the sole exception of those employees who are designated to participate in the MR Insiders community by Marriott Rewards, Marriott International Associates, employees, and representatives agree not to post, upload, transmit, distribute, store, create, or otherwise publish or republish content on or from the MR Insiders site.

Marriott International employees and representatives also agree not to create identities, or to impersonate other persons or entities, or in any other manner to misrepresent their affiliation with Marriott International.

Get Started

It might be intimidating at first to post a message, or reply to one you've read. No problem. You're welcome to hang out and read posts until you feel comfortable. Of course, we encourage you to join the discussions. We have a very supportive community and we welcome your contributions.

Choose an Insiders Name

Before you can post, you must create your profile with Marriott Rewards Insiders and choose an Insiders name. Your Insiders name is a unique and consistent identifier, and may not be a Web site or email address.

Set Preferences for Your Insiders Profile

As a member of the Insiders community, you can customize your avatar, upload a photo of yourself, and even specify your personal preferences for email notifications on community activity. Use the preview tool to see how other Insiders will see your profile when making any changes to your preferences section of your Insiders account.

Being Respectful

It is our goal to maintain a community that is respectful of various views and opinions and is appropriate for Marriott Rewards members. With this in mind, we cannot permit, and will at our discretion remove, posts or links that in our reasonable judgment:

  1. are obscene, promote racism, prejudice, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual;
  2. harass or advocate harassment of another person or organization;
  3. contain nudity, violence, or offensive subject matter;
  4. promote information that you know is false or misleading or promotes illegal activities or conduct that is abusive, threatening, obscene, defamatory or libelous;
  5. exploit people in a sexual, violent or other manner not respectful of human rights;
  6. further or promote any criminal activity or enterprise, or provide instructional information about illegal activities, such as making or buying illegal products or violating someone's privacy;
  7. solicit passwords or personal information from others for commercial or unlawful purposes;
  8. knowingly introduce viruses, worms, harmful code, or Trojan horses on the Internet; or
  9. involve commercial activities and/or sales without our prior written consent, such as contests, sweepstakes, solicitation of donations, bartering, advertising or pyramid schemes.

Please keep your replies on topic. Replies to discussions that stray from the subject of the original thread may be branched into their on discussions or may otherwise be removed.

To report off-topic or out-dated information, share the offending thread with communitymanager and include a brief description of the situation.

Use the Search Feature

Before starting a new thread, please use the search feature to see if there's a recent discussion on your topic. The search field is located in the upper left hand corner of the Marriott Rewards Insiders home page. Keeping information on the same topic confined to as few discussion threads as possible helps members quickly find the information they need.

Create Descriptive Titles

Imagine searching for a new discussion and having to wade through vague titles that may or may not be relevant. Generalities such as "Guess what?" or "Disappointment in France." You can help by making the titles of your posts as specific and descriptive as possible like, "Restaurant Discovery in Boston" or "Avoiding the Crowds at the Louvre." Be as helpful as possible in your titles, and if you want to improve or revise it, you can easily change it.

Add Location-Specific Property tags

All discussions or questions posted within the Destinations topic area require a location tag. For general discussions about a city or region, you can simply type in the city or region, and then click "add tags".

For conversations about a specific Marriott property, you can add the exact property tag with the three-step process: First, type the city name in the location text field. Then select the matching city within the suggested results list. Complete your tag by selecting both the hotel's brand and property name.

Rate and Review Marriott Properties

Marriott Rewards Insiders may provide a star-rating and review for Marriott properties within the community. To make your review is as informative and relevant as possible, remember to:

  • Give us the details of your stay. This includes the time of year, purpose of your trip, and whether you used points or paid standard, special or package rates.
  • Explains the reason for your review. You'll want to include details like what made your trip memorable or remarkable, your familiarity with the brand, the destination, and what you expected.
  • Describe the staff, the amenities, or an event that made a lasting impression on you. If the experience was truly outstanding, you may want to nominate a staff member for Marriott's coveted "Spirit to Serve" award. If an experience left room for improvement, outline what steps were taken to resolve the issue, and any suggestions or actionable items that may have made the experience better for you.
  • Refrain from using all caps, full names, personal insults, or verbal attacks. All reviews are subject to these terms of use and may be moderated and/or deleted if they do not abide by these terms. Marriott Rewards will monitor these reviews and may respond to posts where information is factually inaccurate.

Welcome Newcomers

Take a moment to welcome newcomers into the Marriott Rewards Insiders community. Since some members hesitate before submitting their first post, being greeted offers important reassurance that their contributions have value.

Suggest Improvements for the Community Itself

Marriott Rewards continues to evolve the Insiders community based upon your feedback. If you have a suggestion that may improve the community, simply start a discussion or create an "idea" within the Community Suggestions topic area. Keep in mind that some changes or enhancements involve significant resources, planning and/or time, so not all can be implemented. We do, however, consider all feedback and integrate the most effective ideas into our plans as best we can.

Nominate and Associate for a Spirit to Serve Award

You can acknowledge those associates that provide particularly commendable service by nominating them for a Spirit to Serve Award through the Insiders community. Marriott associates strive to provide excellent service for each and every guest and they appreciate being acknowledged by you. Award winners receive a customized certificate signed by Bill Marriott and Arne Sorenson. If you're new to the Marriott Rewards Insiders community, you'll need to sign in with your Marriott Rewards account and create your Insiders profile to submit nominations

Padding Participation Credits

Creating multiple replies or posts with meaningless or minimal information in an effort to increase one's participation score is not permitted. Offending threads and or replies will be removed and participation credits restored.

About these Terms & Conditions

These Terms of Use outline the role of a Marriott Rewards Insiders Steward for the Marriott Rewards Insiders Community. These Terms also define the relationship between a Steward and the Marriott Rewards program of Marriott® International, Inc. (Marriott) which sponsors the community. This voluntary program confers no financial benefit to the Steward, and is for a period of six months of service. By applying to be a Steward, you are agreeing to the following T&Cs:

Background & Intent

Purpose of the Insiders Stewards Program

The Insiders Stewards program allows our most active and knowledgeable members to have a formal leadership role within the Insiders community. As community leaders, Stewards help drive positive participation throughout the site and answer questions from other members so the site remains a unique resource of travel and Marriott Rewards information.

The Insiders Stewards program is comprised of five Insiders, who may communicate with Marriott to show their understanding of community trends, receive feedback on issues, collaborate on site improvements, and share important previews that they then can share with members. By taking an active leadership role within the community, Stewards help reinforce the purpose of the Insiders community: to ultimately provide a community for members by members.

Requirements of Eligibility

Ideal Candidates

The Stewards program is available to any Marriott Rewards member who demonstrate:

  • A high level of participation on the Marriott Insiders community, such as frequent posting and interacting with other members in a positive, articulate, and professional way that helps the community.
  • Longevity in the Marriott Rewards Program and its predecessors and ideally a high level of program achievement. This experience helps Stewards accumulate the knowledge/experience needed to be a resource to other members and to provide relevant content.
  • A genuine desire to share their travel experiences with the community, and to collaborate with other Stewards and travelers.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. All candidates must complete a Marriott Insiders Stewards Application in full.
  2. A Steward's role is to help others in the Insiders community. They must support the Community by:
    • Posting content frequently: that is of interest to the Insiders community.
    • Answering member questions: address issues/concerns about which they have some insight or experience (e.g., travel, Marriott Rewards program), or direct those members to appropriate resources. Note: Stewards are not expected to be able to answer all community questions/inquiries.
    • Keeping the site accurate, professional, and helpful: proactively address any misinformation appearing on Insiders where appropriate and to the best of their abilities. Stewards will have access to Marriott resources to help in cases in which they are unclear how to proceed.
    • Providing feedback on site usage: evaluate site content and efficiency, report any site problems, glitches, and bugs/errors.
    • Funneling Issues: help alert Marriott to posts or threads that may require special attention and to any misinformation that may have proliferated on the site.
    • Channeling trends: relay community issues, suggestions, etc.
    • Sharing information: communicate back to the community interesting learning, insight, or clarification gained from their collaboration with Marriott.

Limitations on Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Stewards do not create the rules of the Insiders community, and are not asked to enforce those rules.
  • Stewards are not asked to become involved in any disputes or disagreements that Insiders members may have with Marriott Rewards or Marriott International.
  • Stewards are not Marriott International employees, and are not asked to substitute for Marriott International employees.
  • Stewards are not substitutes for Marriott Customer Care employees. Members of the Insiders community should refer all reservation and account-related questions and concerns directly to Customer Care.
  • Any Insider may contact a Steward with a question or request for help, but may or may not receive a response at the discretion of the Steward. All communications with Stewards should be thought of as communications within the Insiders community, and are subject to the Marriott Rewards Insiders Terms of Use.

Duration & Tenure:

Given that this program is voluntary, Insiders Stewards are asked to maintain their roles for six months from the time they are accepted as Stewards. They may vacate their role at any time due to unforeseen circumstances, but Marriott asks that departing Stewards communicate such change as early as possible for the benefit of the community and to help Marriott fill the role quickly.

Should a Steward fail to meet the Terms of Use of either the Stewards Program or the Marriott Rewards Insiders Community, or demonstrate behaviors that are not in the best interest of the Insiders community, Marriott reserves the right to request that the Steward step down.

Support & Communication:

Stewards are provided with the following resources to help them in their roles:

  • Stewards Badge: unique badge/icon displayed on the Insiders site that identifies them as a Steward. This badge appears on the individual profile page and next to their name in a profile popup box.
  • Communication/Collaboration with Marriott:
    • Private Stewards Discussion Group: as an on-going resource during their tenure that includes best practices, program news, up-coming site changes, discuss points from collaboration meetings, etc.
    • E-mail Access to Marriott Team: for urgent site matters.
    • Ad hoc conference calls as needed.

A note on posting content:

Being a Steward does not limit or dictate the sentiment of a Steward's postings in any manner. As a member of the Insiders community, all members can openly and honestly post their opinions. The only limitations placed on posts are those dictated in the site T&Cs.

A note on collaborations with Marriott and Confidentiality:

A requirement of the Stewards Program is participation within the private Stewards discussion group on Insiders. Information about this discussion group will be provided to new Stewards, as this is the primary communication channel between Stewards and Marriott. Marriott's proprietary information of a confidential nature may be revealed during these communications and will be clearly identified as such. Stewards must agree to protect any and all confidentiality.

A note on recognition:

The Stewards program is a volunteer program. No financial or actual compensation is promised to a participant in any form. Marriott will accept individuals who desire to be personally rewarded by the opportunity to be known as a leader within a community of like-minded travel peers. Marriott Rewards Stewards are enthusiastic members of one of the largest and most successful hotel loyalty programs in the world.

End of Tenure:

Stewards are asked to serve a six-month term and upon completion, are encouraged to share feedback in the spirit of improving the Stewards program.

Upon the completion of the six-month term, Stewards will receive a new badge/icon identifying them as an alumnus of the program. Alumni may be invited at any time to offer feedback, generate ideas, etc.

Stewards may reapply to the program after a one-year hiatus.

Terms & Condition Summary

By applying for the Marriott Rewards Insiders Stewards Program, I understand and agree to the following:

  • To apply via the Stewards Program Application as a Marriott Rewards member with a high level of program achievement
  • To serve as leader within the Insiders community, by posting relevant content on a regular basis, answering questions to the best of my ability, and keeping the site accurate, professional and helpful
  • To collaborate with other Stewards and Marriott to improve Insiders as a resource for Marriott Rewards members. This includes the private discussion group and respecting any request for confidentiality
  • To limit my term to six-months and accept a one-year hiatus before reapplying
  • To communicate to Marriott as soon as possible any intention to end my tenure before one year

Marriott reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions at any time.

Respect for Privacy and Persons

Your Privacy

The Marriott Rewards Insiders community respects its members' privacy. None of your personal information will be posted on the Forums unless you post it yourself. We require that you identify yourself as a Marriott Rewards member when posting a comment because we believe that members are experienced travelers who have unique insights to offer each other.

Guard Your Privacy

Please keep your personal information personal. If you want to share your personal information with another member of the community, do so via email or some other private message.

Guard Other Members' Privacy

Please do not post the names, addresses, phone numbers, or emails of community members. This information will be removed by moderators.

Respect Marriott Employees' Privacy

Please respect the privacy of Marriott employees by not referring to them by name

Don't Make Personal Attacks

We encourage a healthy exchange of opinions. If you disagree with another member, please challenge the opinion or idea — not the person. Personal attacks, insults and "flaming" will not be tolerated. You may challenge others' points of view and opinions, but please do so respectfully and thoughtfully.

Dealing with Personal Attacks

If you feel that you are being personally attacked or harassed, contact a moderator. Please do not retaliate or respond directly.

Reinstate Your Insiders Profile

If you have previously asked for your Insiders account to be disabled, you may reinstate it by emailing By reactivating your profile, you must agree to these Terms of Use.

Respect for Legal Concerns

Copyrighted Content

By posting content to the Marriott Rewards Insiders community, you represent and warrant that you either own or control all of the rights to that content, and that such content does not violate these Terms of Use. Please do not post any content (e.g., photos from search results, book quotes, logos, etc.) that is the property of another individual. We will delete any post that we believe may violate the copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights of any person or organization.

Our Use of Cookies

We also request membership information to deter automated submission of a post. This community does use a temporary cookie that expires at the end of the session. The cookie will not contain any personal information other than what you provide in your post.

Use of Content

We are devoted to making the Marriott Rewards Insiders a community that encourages a frank and insightful exchange of information among members around the world. We welcome and appreciate your ideas, and hope that you will share your suggestions about how we can improve our service.
