What does the expiration date mean on an unused reward certificate?  Do we just have to have another trip booked by then?  Can points be put back into our account?  Can it be transferred to another reward type?  Thanks

(For each location tag, you will be guided through a 3-step process to add (1) a city and a state or a city and a country, (2) a Marriott brand, and (3) a Marriott hotel.)

Good Afternoon, This is somewhat of a difficult question to answer because there are so many different types of rewards. Simply stated, the expiration date is the day by which you must redeem the reward. However, your options with an expired certificate vary depending on the type of certificate and how long it has been expired. Generally speaking, if you used points for the certificate and the reward has not been expired for more than a year we can cancel the reward and return the points to your account. Additionally, if the original reward is still available we can issue a new one with a new expiration date. Promotional rewards (rewards you did not redeem points for) can not generally be extended or returned for point credit. Again, this is speaking very generally and does not take into account any specific situations. The best thing you can do if you have questions about your options for a specific reward is to contact Guest Services. I hope this helps - thanks!
