Yesterday was my birthday and I received an email from Marriott Rewards with a birthday greeting and a link to claim a gift. I could tell from the Terms and conditions in the email that the gift would be an Elite Night Credit just as it was last year. However every time I clicked on the link I received a "Server Error 404- File or Directory Not Found". This morning I tried again and got the same error. I just spoke with a Marriott Rewards Agent who said my Elite Night Credit should post to my account tomorrow. Hopefully Marriott Rewards will fix the broken link.
well.... my B-Day is coming up next week, never had this email from MR before (even tho I am PLT Elite, have the top level chase MR visa, have already had 7 stays in 2013, on top of many many in 2012, 2011, etc). Seems like MR only sends certain promos and emails to those they select, and I just dont seem to be on that list. Like my 1st grade teacher said, if you eat gum in lcass, hope you brought enough for everyone. Seems like MR doesnt follow that advice!
There have been other discussion threads on this topic in the past. In order to get "enrolled" in Marriott's "birthday gift program," you'll need to sign in to your Marriott Rewards account and then edit your profile by adding your birthday, in order to get it into the system. If you don't see a birthdate field in your profile, then it has somehow already been entered (for some reason, once your birthdate is entered, you no longer see that field in your profile). Once your birthdate is in the "system," you should receive a birthday email from Marriott just prior to your birthday. You can also contact Marriott Customer Service and ask to have them note your birthdate into your account.
I haven't got an answer for Chris (I assume Chris, that you have previously tried to jump through the hoop I described. If not, try it.) I know that apparently not all things are created equal (with regards to Marriott Rewards, Marriott Visa, etc.) between us Yanks and our British Cousins, and I don't know why that is exactly (perhaps has to do with currency exchange rates? )
You are 'not wrong' pluto ... yup, tried going through the process ... I don't recall if I entered my birthdate on the profile but I can't see a field ... I did call CS last year and they told me it was recorded ... I'll wait and see if anything turns up this April! I live in hope.
On another topic, we now have an extra day for our road-trip. Was it you that said Kingman was worth a visit? The drive from Victorville to Grand Canyon was looking like a 7 hour marathon, so we decided to do two 3 hour sessions.
No, Kingman is not worth a visit. In my opinion. Okay... Having just said that, perhaps I am quite wrong. Check out this website, Chris:
Perhaps you'll be amused by these attractions. The reviews are interesting. It seems that there is a little bit of Route 66 history here as well as some nice scenery.
Here are some restaurant reviews if you're going to lunch in Kingman.
I guess I never gave Kingman much thought. Our trips have been out of necessity (paying boat registration fees, conducting estate business at Mojave County Courthouse, etc.), but perhaps it has its own little story to tell.
Also, don't miss a quick drive through the main little drag of Seligman, AZ. Some interesting historic route 66 memorabilia to be seen there as well.
Also, If we happen to be in Bullhead, AZ the day you drive through, we could meet up for a quick "Hello!"
Thanks for the tips Pluto ... the 'attractions' look amusing! Especially the 'rum' distillery ... I expected that to be a bourbon distillery until I read the reviews. Is much rum drunk in the USA?
I just checked on the map and it looks like a detour through Bullhead would take us along part of Route 66 which would be interesting. If you happen to be around on Tuesday 9th April, a meet up would be great. We should be leaving Victorville at about 10am and you seem to be in the same time zone, so we should be there around early afternoon?
I've added Seligman as a detour too ... thanks.
We will be at the River (Bullhead) Apr. 11-15 (family tradition). I would break for it sooner, but need to save my annual leave for our big Europe trek later on. Bullhead, like many small southwestern desert towns may seem like not much more than a crumbling main street riddled with tumbleweeds and gas stations from yesteryear, and plagued by a depressed economy, but it's where we've been gathering for water recreation for generations now (when I was about 8, my grandfather's friend Bill Erickson used to call me "the soda pop kid" - there's some colorful desert trivia for you.) In those days, we didn't live on the water. We drove up to Lake Mojave above the dam to fish and ski. And we used to enjoy riding the jet skis up river right up to the bottom of the dam spillway, but since 9/11, it seems like all of the dams in the U.S. have been blocked off now for security.
I noticed that Kingman has a neat looking little Amtrak train station. Amtrak's Southwest Chief line (LA to Chicago) runs through there. Anyway, excited for yours and Ann Marie's upcoming trip. Sounds like some great times are in store. I know we will catch up with you one of these days (notice I say days and not years - keeping it positive!)
Rum? Isn't that what they put in Daquiri's and Pina Coladas? I think of it as a Carribean drink. Oh, but Rum cake is sooooo good. Hic.
Looks like we'll miss you by a couple of days ... we'll be at Grand Canyon Village and Sedona when you're in Bullhead. However, you tempted me with the Route 66 info and Bullhead is now on our route ... it should make the journey to Kingman just that bit more interesting.
You had the same thoughts re rum at I did ... but, no doubt, I can be tempted to check it out!
I am sure that this won't be our last trip to the area so ... one day, I am sure that our paths will cross in a more timely manner. Enjoy your break in Bullhead.
I'm sorry to tell you this, but you will be decidedly unimpressed by the town. The only thing worth anything there is (me! no, JK!) the river and the resort homes on the water, which you can only see from the water. The rest of the town is quite depressed, although there is now a very good community college for the kids who grow up there. There is a group of high rise casinos across the river on the Nevada side (Laughlin, NV), pretty all lit up at night, I suppose. Once upon a time the casino side of the river boomed; it took off and then just sort of petered (people still go there, and I'm not really sure why when Vegas is just an hour and a half up the road). But anyway... the desert mountains in the area are magnificent, if you like that sort of thing. (I do.) So just to let you know.
So, Pluto, you are trying to put me off ... ... it's always interesting to see some of the areas way off the tourist routes provided they are safe. It sounds like depressed but safe? Provided we have no other pressures, I am anticipating that we will do that bit of Route 66 ... we love spectacular scenery so, hopefully, we be ok there. Thanks for the 'expectation resetting'!
I read the threads and did put my birthday in my profile. My birthday was Sunday and I got an e-mail with a link that took me to an error like the original post. I watched my night count and it did not change. I won't probably have time to deal with this, till after I return from my next trip. And then, it might not be worth it since I am already lifetime platinum.
called MR-CS as suggested, no BD in my profile, and no way they or I could get it added! Ain't MR technology great! Another lump of coal for this MR Plat (many years running), so I guess my next step is to call the chair's office and see if they can get some IT person to find out why it cannot work for my acct. Happy B-day to all and hope you get your present from Marriott (and feel free to ask them to send you mine, since I wont be getting it anyway!)
Thanks for making it easy. I called the number and I will be getting an elite night (not a free night) for my birthday. She told me to have others call since we must be enrolled to get it. I alerted her to the error message that we get and she will alert tech support. vaboywnder
OK, so spoke to MR CS - they told me that you need to call and re up for this every year by calling CS and asking to re enroll in this promo. They told me no automatic enrollment, no continuity from year to year, they will manually enroll you if you call and you need to call again each year. So, if you want this, call MR CS and tell them to enroll you. My BDay is tomorrow, so we will see if I get the email and the offer to get one more night credited to my total (Lifetime platinum is within shouting distance) so every night counts for me anyway.
Hey, Californian, I think we have the same birthday--the 20th. Anyway, I got the email with the error link, too. I called CS & they said I did get the free elite night. Haven't seen it yet. But as you said, it'll probably be posted by the end of the month. If not, I will call back.
I sent an email to MR requesting to enrolled in the promotion and received the following response:
"Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards.
Marriott Rewards would like to offer its regrets and apologies that the Birthday Elite Night 2013 promotion has been discontinued and is no longer available. We apologize for any inconvenience.
I see you have been a member of the Marriott Rewards program since 2000. Thank you for your thirteen years of membership.".
Other posters stated you have to call. Not sure if that's the case or if they actually discontinued the program mid-year.
Dcmike: thanks and appreciate you passing this along. I received mine (January Bday) and this is unfair to those born later in the year and on the whole, another degradation of the MR program if this is really the intent of MR. I hope it will be re visited and changed as oit cost MR NOTHING and generated goodwill, but then again, Marriott doesn't seem to car about goodwill of its loyal (or soon to be formerly loyal) base.
dcmike - try calling Marriott Rewards support - the birthday Elite night credit program was briefly shut down to update the systems involved, but we do care about all of you and I can confirm that it is back up and running. And I'll reach out to make sure the associates have all been updated as well.
My birthday was October 8 and didn't see anything come through so I called Customer Support.
They said there was a "promotion" that you had to sign up for back in March or April of this year to get the night. She said they would manually watch to see if I was 1 or 2 nights away from renewing my Platinum and could possibly add the night at that point. She made some other comment about the promotion for this year ending October 1 so I would have to wait until next year to sign up again.
I kindly explained that no such promotion had been sent to me, and that I check promotions often to ensure that I haven't missed out on a new one.
This makes the second year of not being Platinum and not receiving the elite night credit for a birthday either year.
well mine was just as bad > I received a happy birthday and a click here to see what you won. When I click it said you have already received credit this year which of course I hadn't so I will call CS. Not a great way to keep loyal customers, it is best if they just publically say it is no longer available. Like you I have never received any notice
Jerryl: i just called and was told that there is a glithch in the system. My birthday night credit would be credited next week!
On another note, by the end of this week I will become a LIFETIME Platinum member, as I will have hit 750 nights stayed. I asked what are my benefits and the CSR said only that I will always be a Platinum member and receive the 50 % bonus points on nights stayed!
